HITOMOJI seriesコンセプト

二度書き出来ない「書」の手法により、等身大の紙に文字を一文字（自身が文字の一部となる部分以外）書く。その上に、死に向かい常に変化する私自身が文字の一部となって存在し、今書き残したい文字(2D)と自分自身(3D)が一体となった“今”のセルフポートレイトを撮影。諸行無常/メメントモリの精神を根底とした作品である。書く文字は、世界で唯一、一文字で意味を成すことができる“漢字”を使用。出来あがった漢字は、古代の象形文字へのオマージュとも言える。

I base it on the techniques of Japanese calligraphy, which by nature is spontaneous and allows no do-overs. I write human-sized kanji characters on enormous sheets of paper, leaving out a key stroke in the character. This I add by laying my body- a vessel in constant change and destined for death- in place of the missing stroke. Finally, photographing the image from above creates a momentary self-portrait, a work deeply grounded in the ethos of memento mori or the Buddhist maxim shogyōmujō- “all things must pass.” The works owe their power to the unique quality of kanji— the ablity to express meaning in a single written character. In that sense, the works could also be considered an homage to ancient hieroglyphic characters.
