漢字は数千年にわたる変遷を経て、中華文明の発展を記録するとともに、深い文化的記憶、美意識の伝統、そして創造の精神を担ってきました。言語・図像・書写という特質を併せ持つ漢字は、書法、絵画、建築、工芸、デザインなどの芸術と絶えず融合し、異なる時代ごとに新たな形式と意味を与えられながら、時代の変化に応え続けています。
20世紀半ば以降、香港はその独自の歴史と開かれた文化環境によって、東西文化が交わる重要な都市となりました。伝統的な漢字は、モダンデザイン、商業ビジュアル、デジタルメディアと融合し、香港ならではの文字景観を形づくるとともに、漢字を単なる書写の手段から創造的なメディアへと発展させてきました。
広東と香港は地理的に近く、文化的な系譜も共通しており、長年にわたって密接な文化交流を続けてきました。本展は、広東美術館と香港芸術館が共同で開催するもので、漢字を結び目として、その歴史的な流れと現代における実践をたどります。そして、伝統と革新、東洋と西洋の文化のあいだで、漢字が絶えず変容し、新たに創造されてきた姿を紹介します。さらに本展を通じて、広東と香港の文化交流を促進し、観客に中華文化の奥深い蓄積と、現代に息づく活力を感じていただくことを目指します。

汉字历经数千年演变，既记录中华文明的发展，也承载着深厚的文化记忆、审美传统与创造精神。兼具语言、图像与书写特质的汉字，与书法、绘画、建筑、工艺、设计等艺术不断交融，在不同历史时期被赋予新的形式与意义，持续回应时代变化。
20世纪中叶以来，香港凭借独特的历史与开放的文化环境，成为中西文化交汇的重要城市。传统汉字与现代设计、商业视觉及数字媒介相互融合，形成独具特色的文字景观，也推动汉字从书写工具走向创意媒介。
广东与香港地缘相近、文脉相通，两地长期保持密切的文化交流。本次展览由广东美术馆与香港艺术馆共同呈现，以汉字为纽带，梳理其历史脉络与当代实践，呈现汉字在传统与创新、中西文化之间持续发生的转化与创造，并以此推动粤港文化交流，让观众感受中华文化的深厚底蕴与时代活力。

Chinese characters have evolved over thousands of years, recording the development of Chinese civilization while embodying its cultural memory, aesthetic traditions, and creative spirit. Combining linguistic, visual, and calligraphic qualities, Chinese characters have continuously intersected with calligraphy, painting, architecture, craft, and design, taking on new forms and meanings in response to changing times.
Since the mid-20th century, Hong Kong’s unique history and open cultural environment have made it an important meeting point between Chinese and Western cultures. Traditional Chinese characters have interacted with modern design, commercial imagery, and digital media, giving rise to a distinctive visual culture and transforming Chinese characters from a tool of writing into a creative medium.
With close geographical and cultural ties, Guangdong and Hong Kong have long maintained vibrant cultural exchange. Jointly presented by the Guangdong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Museum of Art, this exhibition takes Chinese characters as its central thread, tracing their historical development and contemporary practices. It explores how Chinese characters continue to evolve between tradition and innovation, and across Chinese and Western cultures, while fostering cultural exchange between Guangdong and Hong Kong and inviting audiences to experience the enduring richness and contemporary vitality of Chinese culture.
